  1. Are you following Lars Iyer's "Wittgenstein Jr"? If not, you might enjoy it. I suspect you'd enjoy his Spurious (novel), too.

  2. Hi John,

I have been dipping into "Wittgenstein Jr." It's brilliant. And thanks for reminding me to run down that novel.

    Cheers.

  3. We retired guys have time for such things ... what a pleasure.

How's your transition for wage slave to gentleman of leisure going? Me, as they say in the McDonalds ads, I'm lovin it.

  4. I don't miss the wage slavery. I do miss interacting with people on a regular basis.

  5. Do you have any thoughts how to get that interaction?

  6. I'm still thinking things through on that score. My priority right now is to get a good solid start on _Appearances_ and then see how I feel.

You've been away from your job a couple of weeks now. Does it seem real to you yet?

  7. Not exactly real yet; I still giggle a lot, as in wow, I'm really not going to get busted for this! I really am going to get pension checks?

At this point I'm sleeping and working on ITH. We dog-sat for our son and daughter-in-law last week; they have a new puppy; it was exhausting. In Feb I'll be working on a project related to Eileen. I'm going to review (put **that** in scare quotes!) 28 books in 29 days. The boks come from her review copy pile - I am unfamiliar with most of the authors except by name. In March we fly to Dallas for a week for the grandkids' 1st birthday. In April, Kathy and I will take a "retirement tour", driving from Portland down the coast, taking about 2 weeks or so. We'll visit lots of friends, some of whom we haven't seen in years. We'll be refinancing, and some other money related things since our income is now fixed.

Maybe by May - after all that - I'll believe retirement is real.
